March is Contemptor Month

Ultramarines Contemptor wants you!

March is all about contemptor dreadnoughts here at Fresh Coast 40k! Over the coming month, FC40k members Muggins, Tau4eva, Cerberus, and yours truly will be talking, building, and painting contemptors.

If you're involved in 40k at all, you've most likely heard about contemptors. These fantastic models come to us courtesy of Forgeworld, and are meant to evoke the classic Rogue Trader era dreadnoughts, updated to a modern aesthetic. These guys have been all the rage on the internet lately, and for good reason! The models allow for a great deal of creativity in both modeling and painting. The parts are designed to allow a great deal of posing, and dreadnoughts always allow a painter to really stretch their talents.

Contemptor Dreadnoughts come in two varieties: Standard and Relic. While the Relic model has more sculpted detail, don't dismiss the standard model. More flat surfaces and empty space equals more room for customization! In addition to the dreadnoughts themselves, there are 7 gun arms, two different CCW arms, and a cyclone missile launcher accessory available. The guns include classics like assault cannons and more esoteric guns like a heavy conversion beamer. One thing that should be noted here is that all of the gun and CCW arms can be modeled to be either the left or right arm! Good design on Forgeworld's part, but unfortunately something that isn't immediately obvious in the product descriptions.

So what exactly will we be doing here this month? Well, the schedule will be as follows:

Week 1 - Fluff, inspiration pics
Week 2 - Build pics, stat discussion
Weeks 3+4 - Painting pics, tutorials, final pics

This will be an ambitious schedule for some of us (and by that I mean me!) but we're looking forward to some contemptor goodness this month. Stay tuned!

  3. Sounds like a good idea. I have been planning on doing a Contemptor Magnetization Tutorial myself. Gotta love the model, I had to go back to order more arms for mine.

  5. Col. Dracus, stay tuned. When my turn rolls around, I'm planning on showing just how easy the arms in this kit are to magnetize. I'm just waiting for the additional arms I ordered myself.
