Thornwood Thursday: Total Annihilation

I've been prepping for this weekend's 75 point Steamroller at Gamers Sanctuary for a while now. I wanted to use Rasheth but I also got really excited about using Xerxis after seeing his model and abilities.


Xerxis is a bricklayer. He pulls up with a dozen dudes in the back in heavy armor and says "come at me bro". He has Defender's Ward which makes units harder to kill; he has a feat that makes them throw an additional die on damage rolls AND armor buff for everything base to base! Both offensive and defensive (like Rasheth's).

I went with a snow theme with Skorne to show that they've marched off to fight my Khador and Legion armies.

The tourney this weekend is using Steamroller scenarios that all use explodable objectives. For that reason I am definitely taking as many slingers as possible. They hit non-living models for an extra damage die from ranged (pow 10). They can also throw over my own dudes because of Xerxis' martial discipline as well as arcing fire.

The other key parts of my list will be the Krea for its sweet defensive animus, swamp gobbers to blow out a cloud, and beast handlers to manage fury since Xerxis is only 5 fury. I feel like I can brick up and just run forward at the objectives.

So many little flags

The main brick part will consist of Cataphracts and gatormen. These dudes will run forward behind the beasts and try to survive shooting to get into contact with objectives / dudes and blow them away in Xerxis' feat turn. The Arcuarii will attempt to harpoon stuff into my army.

I don't have the Taskmaster in there to help out the gatormen but I believe they'll be alright. The number of beasts gives me a low number of activations and makes it easier. I will have Tiberion finished tonight most likely.

Arcuarii can harpoon you, drag you in, then weapon master attack you (and open you up for the rest of the army!)

Cetrati can shield wall for insane ARM.
