New Starter Box: Dark Vengeance Details

Courtesy of the folks over at Beasts of War we have exciting new details surrounding the upcoming starter box for 6th edition - Dark Vengeance.

Long rumored to be featuring the forces of Chaos and Space Marines of the Dark Angels chapter, Dark Vengeance does not disappoint. The rumors of Chaos Cultists are indeed true, and according to the source they are very impressive.

Along with the Cultists you get a six man Chosen squad - not to familiar with Chaos Space Marines but they sound like regular powered armoured models. This is also quite interesting: there is a new Chaos model coming out called the Hellbrute. The jury is still out on whether this is a Monstrous Creature or a Vehicle, but it could turn out to be similar to the Grey Knight Dreadknight.

Not to be outdone, the Dark Angel side of the box is also quite impressive, sporting the standard Tactical Squad and also a nice five man squad in Terminator Armour. Now the nice thing about these units is the unique way you can pose them, sounds like they will be Dark Angel specific. There also is a heavy amount of plasma included in the squads. To complete the Dark Angel force you get a squad of three bikers and three very nice characters a Chaplain, a Librarian, and a Commander all of which are very nice models.

Now I know what a lot of you will be picking this up for: the mini rulebook. I can't blame you as the main rule book gets heavy after awhile. Like previous starter sets it is in there. If the Dark Angel models are as nice as they say I might actually pick this one up.

Let us know what you think in the comments below.

  1. Damn, I might have to add DA to my to-do list. Already looking forward to the CSM Cultists for a Daemon allied attachment.

I might be able to get a non-tabletop friend or two into 40k with this new set. Nice!

  2. Chosen are Chaos Marines with Infiltrate and the ability to take more than the usual 2 special/heavy weapons per squad (so you can kit out 5 with meltas or whatever). The rules might change, or they may get a stat boost, but they're commonly used as melta/plasma bomb anti-tank units.

Very excited about cultists, and while I will definitely be picking this set up for the Chaos models, a long time ago I had some Dark Angels and STILL have some Forgeworld Deathwing pauldrons I've never used. Will probably be painting those guys up as well.

  3. Looking forward to Dark Angels with Plasma weapons. Not Looking forward to rolling 1's and blowing them up.

Cannot wait for the new, smaller rulebook!!!!! Woohoo!!!

I refuse to carry the giant hardback around. I will get the smaller rulebook spiral-wound with clear plastics covers - - I will also make a pdf of it on my home scanner. :)

  4. I think I'm gonna sell the small one on eBay, lol. Plenty of nerds out there to buy it.

I have never really seen the point of spiral binding, can you explain it?

  5. Spiral wound = the book always lays flat, open to whatever page you want without breaking the back of the book. To save space you can fold the book in half and leave it laying open to a reference page. I have clear covers put on the front and back of the finsihed product - the book looks like new for years.

    1. Ahh yeah that definitely helps. I think I'll pass on it for now after seeing three or four people have theirs spiral bound in the wrong direction, lol.

    2. Staples around here won't even do it anymore because they screwed so many rulebooks up!

  6. I've had mine made at 3 different FedEx-Kinkos offices in 2 states (all of my softback game books are now spiral wound). I took in an example each time to leave with them "just in case" they had questions.
