Trollblood Tuesday - Borka, Vengeance of the Rimeshaws

Hello readers! After quite an absence, I've returned bearing offerings of painted models. Up today is my Borka2, or Epic Borka, or Drunken Lout Riding a Polar Bear. This is one of my favorite models I've done to date.

I've painted quite a bit during my hiatus from the blog, and Borka2 is definitely one of my favorite results. I got him as a pre-release at Gencon this past summer. I typically don't go nuts with the pre-release stuff at cons, as I'd rather support my LGS. But there was no way I could turn this guy down.

Seriously how could I pass up a model this cool? It actually wasn't too hard to assemble. Privateer Press did a good job combining the resin bear and metal Borka bits. I even pinned the model to a Secret Weapon Miniatures base with no trouble.

Painting the bear was definitely the hardest part. There are a lot of layers of paint on there as I kept not liking how it was turning out. Turns out polar bear fur is harder than it looks, go figure.

I'm super happy with how the tartans and albino skin (most Troll warlocks are albino, btw) came out. I also really like how Borka and his bear buddy have matching tartans.

Finally, a quick close shot of the base.

I used a Secret Weapon Miniatures lava base to make this stream with melting snow look. My Trollbloods don't normally have snow on their bases, but I wanted to do something to reflect Borka's northern, snowy background. Since his feat basically creates a giant blizzard, I decided to show the aftereffects in a snowy, slushy, stream at his feat.

As always, thanks for looking at my stuff. It's nice to be back in the saddle, and I'm excited to finally be taking high quality photos for once. Keep an eye out for more Trollbloods later!

  1. I love the tartans, and how the chain mail? on the back of the saddle turned out with the highlights on each part. Fleshtones look really well blended.

Borka's story in Exigence is pretty amazing
