Something Awful Painting Challenge - Oath Trek 2012

Particularly keen-eyed readers may have seen my occasional shoutouts to the Something Awful forums, or SA forum members. The SA forums are an interesting place to say the least, but their 40k and other gaming-related threads are some of the best resources on the net.
One of the long-running traditions there (going into year three, wow!) is the yearly painting oath thread. This year's thread is bigger and badder than ever!

Contemptor Month: Revered Brother Marius of the Mantis Warriors
Posted by
Michael Ovsenik
I have to confess: I'm a super lazy painter. I cut corners so that things look battlefield quality so I can get the stuff knocked out quickly. I usually like to take more time on the important centerpiece models, though. This dreadnought took me a week and a half to paint off and on... at some points I got fed up with painting it, and painted some Hordes models.
DFG Adepticon Primer Tournament Wrap Up

On Saturday I played in Dark Future Games Adepticon Primer tournament held at Game Links in Fowlerville. OST did a great job running the tournament at Game Links which is in a great location for many players in the area. I was amazed that there were no Grey Knights at all (yay!). I think the tally was three Blood Angels, three Necrons, one Dark Angel, one Black Templar, one Ork, and one Chaos Daemon player. The Chaos Daemon player won the day.

Brother Jeremiah Presents Blood Angel Honor Guard
Posted by
Michael Ovsenik
Editor's Note: This was written by Brother Jeremiah and sent to me to post. As always we keep you in mind, Jeremy.
Greetings readers from half-way around
the world.
It has been a long time since I've
wrote an article for Fresh Coast 40k. There is good reason for this as
I find myself deployed to Afghanistan. I don't find a lot of free
time here from my duties but when I do I try to paint my 40k Models.
It has taken quite a few months but I
finished my Blood Angels Honor Squad. When I conceived the idea for
my Honor Squad, it was out of fun. I cannot imagine using these guys
in a competitive list, but they sure look fun to play with. I hope you agree with me.

Contemptor Month: Mantis Warriors Build

When making a Forge World purchase, you have to consider all the options because you don't want to wait another month to get the pieces you forgot that you needed. This is especially true with contemptor dreadnoughts - they have a multitude of weapon options, including a missile launcher attached to the top!

It always seems to be this way. Every time I get into painting my marines, GW goes along and completely redesigns their paint selection!

Contemptor Month: Attention Neckbeards: Imperial Armour Stuff is A-OK
Posted by
Michael Ovsenik
One of the contentious points about Contemptor Dreadnoughts is that they come from Imperial Armour, the set of books that Forge World has put out to support their models. These are 'non-standard' models that not everyone has access to, be it from lack of money or purchase method. There are a few reasons to hate on these rules and therefore never want to play against someone using them; there are a lot more great reasons to play with Imperial Armour models and rules.

Michigan’s largest export in 2012? Engineers! I packed up my miniatures and moved to a new job designing hybrid vehicles In Utah. Since getting settled in I’ve begun exploring to find a new local game shop (LGS) for playing Warhammer, Warhammer 40k and Warmachine.

I thought I would kick off our "Month of Contempt" with a general homage to the model that still inspires and thrills us all; the Space Marine Dreadnought!

| Bray Shaman Abramio called his herd forward |
As stated in the previous blog article, Tau4Eva and I attended the Warhammer Fantasy tournament at Gamers Sanctuary yesterday. I used the list I posted on Friday which included the Herdstone. I was a little scared to use it because I wasn't sure I would use it correctly. I also included the Jagged Dagger, which allows me to grab power dice for each model my Great Bray kills in close combat. He cut down a ton of dudes... my magic phases were well powered.
WHFB Tournament - Tau4eva takes 3rd place!

Mike and I attended the WHFB Adepticon primer tournament at GS this past weekend. There were a total of twelve players including a few that are planning to play in Chicago for the upcoming fantasy tournament at Adepticon - sounds like a lot of fun. I would love to make the trip next year. Hopefully by then I will meet the fully painted army requirement. Saturday's tournament used scenarios from the 2011 tournament with a 2200 point army limit. Here's the Dark Elf list I brought:
