Model Swap Month - 25th Anniversary Marine Diorama

I drew the short straw for April, pulling the super detailed 25th Anniversary Marine Model. With apologies for the delay (having twins born will do that to you), my painted model is after the jump.

The model itself was in pretty good shape given Finecast's record. There were a few small holes I filled with some Liquid Greenstuff. After that, I added some basing sand to the outer edges of the base and got to priming. I went with white primer, which I am a total convert to thanks to my Trollbloods. It's nice here as it makes for brighter, more vibrant colors befitting a Rogue Trader era model.

The armor and blue banner were done with a Regal Blue basecoat followed by a wash of the new Drakenhof Nightshade wash. It's a nice, deep dark blue that works better in most contexts than the old Asurmen. I say that as a total fan of Asurmen for my Trollbloods, by the way. I reapplied Regal Blue to areas I didn't want shaded, then highlighted with a 50/50 mix of Regal Blue and Enchanted Blue.

The red starts with Scab Red followed by a Devlan Mud wash. Like with the blue, I reapplied Scab Red where needed and then highlighted with Blood Red.

I made the ork a Deffskull ork, which is probably not canonical, but it'll be my signature on the model since I'll have to give this one back to Gamers Sanctuary.

That's it for now, thanks for looking!

  1. Very impressive paint job with a super impressive model. I think it'll look sweet in the cabinet at GS.

    1. I saw it in the cabinet, it does look sweet. That marine is holding the line against a lot of Warbeasts...
